Amd patch for mac os x. You may be in a situation where you need to dynamically set the hostname of a machine as part of your SCCM task sequence. For a zero touch deployment you’ll want to use a method that requires no interaction. In my experience I’ve found that using the serial number of the machine provides a decent unique string.
Clone detection for software installed on a virtual machine must employ a different technique than that used for physical machines. The two most important fingerprint characteristics - the physical hard drive serial number and the physical motherboard ID - are not accessible to software running on the virtual machine. When I vmotioned from one host to another (both hosts are in the same EVC cluster and have different underlying generations CPUs X5365s and E5450s), the processor CPUID dod not change. It stayed as processor serial number: 0000-06F8-0000-0000-0000-0000. In fact, every VM Ihave reports the same processir CPUID value So I think you are safe.
A note about Windows hostname length. On some forums the maximum size of a Windows hostname is a debate, however I find it best to stick to what Microsoft has published on their site, 15 character maximum and a restriction on some special characters. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/909264Know what platform you’re deploying to
In order to support both physical and virtual platforms I set up most task sequences with separate rules to accommodate physical and virtual machines.Physical Machines
Each Name Workstation has a different condition associated with it, for example the Name Workstation (Physical) step will only run if the system mode does not equal ’Virtual Machine’.
For workstations I like to use only the serial number of the computer which can be accomplished by just typing %SerialNumber% into the Value: box. Most manufactures use a unique string that is fewer than 10 characters, however you should take some samples in your environment first, below is a screenshot of a home built PC that I use, I believe it is an ASRock motherboard. You can see what the serial number of a machine is by opening a PowerShell prompt and typing ’Get-WMIObject Win32_BIOS’VMWare Virtual Machines
VMWare VMs are a different beast, they have very long serial numbers that contain spaces. See example below
Because of the long serial number what I like to do is just take the last two characters and prefix it with ’VM-’ (obviously this gives you less entropy, but I haven’t found the need to image many VMWare machines yet). You’ll see in the screenshot below you can do some basic string manipulation using VB script syntax, we’re taking the right most two characters from the %SerialNumber% task sequence variable, then adding ’VM-’ to the beginning.
To ensure this step only runs on a VMWare virtual machine I use the following criteria.Hyper-V Virtual Machines
Hyper-V is similar to VMWare where the serial number is going to be long, however the format is a bit easier to work with.
For Hyper-V I take the rightmost 8 characters of the serial number and prefix that with ’VM-’

There are many ways to accomplish the task when you’re working with computers. Hopefully these examples put you on the right track for a task sequence that can accommodate your needs. Comment on this if you know a better way of doing it, I’d like to hear how others are accomplishing this.
In the previous post Configure DHCP and TFTP for Auto Deploy, we discussed how to setup your DHCP and TFTP servers to allow your ESX hosts to PXE boot. However, once an ESX host boots, it will need directions to know what to boot. This is where Auto Deploy Rules come in.Download an ESXi Offline Bundle
You will need at least one offline ESXi bundle, which will allow you to attach ESXi to an Auto Deploy rule (we’ll talk about this later on)
Go to www.vmware.com and click on the version of ESXi you wish to use. You will see an ‘ESXi Offline Bundle’ ZIP file. Download the file and remember the location where you placed it.
Do not unzip this file as you will need the full ZIP file for Auto Deploy.Add ESXi to the Software Depot
Once you have the ESXi Offline Bundle, you will need to add it to the Software Depot.
To add the Offline Bundle to the Software Depot, you will use the ‘Add-EsxSoftwareDepot’ cmdlet along with the location of the bundle:
Add-EsxSoftwareDepot C:REPOVMware-ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-depot.zip
Once this file has been loaded successfully, you will see the Depot URL:
You can then use the ‘Get-EsxImageProfile’ cmdlet to see the versions of ESXi available to you from the bundle that was just uploaded. In the image below, you can see that there are two versions of ESXi 6.0.0; standard, and no-tools:

A Deploy rule is used to determine which hosts boot a specific version of ESXi. There are two important pieces of information needed to create the deploy rule; items and patterns. The items determine what object to associate to the ESXi host and the patterns determine which ESXi hosts are a part of the specific rule.
The following are patterns that can be specified:
*Asset – The host’s asset tag
*Domain – Domain name
*Hostname – The Machine’s hostname
*IPv4 – IP address of the host. This can be a specific IP Address or a range
*MAC – MAC address of the NIC used in PXE boot
*Model – Host’s model name
*OEMstring – OEM string from the BIOS
*Serial – Serial number of the host
*Vendor – Host’s vendor name
To get a better idea of what is needed, I’ve added two screenshots of a host booting via DHCP and iPXE from the previous blog post. The first shows the host successfully receiving an IP Address and receiving files via TFTP.
This screenshot below shows the attributes of the host that is being booted, which is a major help when determining the patterns used for the auto-deploy rule. In this case, the host being booted is a virtual ESXi host. Machine attributes will be determined mostly by the model and vendor of the host being used.
We will use the information from the screenshot above to create a pattern for our auto-deploy rule. We will give the new rule a name and attach the ESXi Image profile from the previous step to it. In this scenario we will create our pattern off of the vendor name “VMware, Inc.” and the IP range that we specified in the DHCP scope, meaning that any host between 192.168.109.21-.30 that has VMware as the vendor will be accepted.
In the example below we use the following command:
$deployrule = New-DeployRule -Name “Default” -Item $os -Pattern “ipv4=192.168.109.21-192.168.109.30″,”vendorVMware, Inc.”Vmware Guest Bios Serial Number Free
The rule will then get created and you will see a number of files being uploaded to AutoDeploy:
These files are being uploaded to the vCenter Server AutoDeploy Repo. The repo will house each of the ESXi bundles. The default depot size is 2GB but can be modified if 2GB is not sufficient.
Once the upload finishes, you can see your DeployRules using Get-DeployRule. This will show you the Name of the rule, the patterns used to identify the hosts, and the version of ESXi that will be attached to said host.Vmware Guest Bios Serial Number GeneratorRemove Deploy Rules
If you create a Deploy Rule that either doesn’t work, or you need to remove it for any other reason, You can do so by retrieving the Deploy Rule, and then using the Remove-DeployRule -Delete command. You will need to make sure that you use the -Delete parameter otherwise, the rule will not be deleted.
In the example below, there are two Deploy Rules: ESX Default, and ESX Hosts. If I wanted to delete the ESX Hosts rule, I would type:
Get-DeployRule “ESX Hosts” | Remove-DeployRule -DeleteAdd Rule to the Deploy Rule Set (Active Deploy Rules)
When you are satisfied with your Deploy Rule, you then need to use the Add-DeployRule cmdlet, which will activate the specified rule and allow your hosts that match the pattern, to boot via autodeploy.
To see which rules are active, run ‘Get-DeployRuleSet’. This will return all active rules. In our example, we only have one.Vmware Vm Bios Serial Number
***Note*** You will most likely end up having more than one rule in your active ruleset. The order of rules in the ruleset DOES MATTER. The rules are ordered so that the first rule is Rule 0. The next being Rule 1 and so on. The topmost rule will attempt to apply first. If the patternlist does not match, it will move on to the next rule and continue until it finds a rule where the patternlist matches the host.If you need to place a rule above or behind another, you can use the -At parameter during the Add-deployRule command:
Add-DeployRule -DeployRule “HP Hosts” -At 0Remove Rule from Deploy Rule Set (move from Active-Set to Working-Set)
Rules that are in the Deploy Rule Set are active. If you decide to remove a rule from the Active rules and place it into the Working-Set (Created rules that are not currently being applied), you would use the Remove-DeployRule cmdlet. This will drop it out of the Active-Set and allow you to edit/tweak any part of the rule needed before placing it back in the Active-Set. Remember, if you add the -Delete parameter on the end of the command, you will completely delete the rule, rather than pull it out of the Deploy Rule Set.
Get-DeployRule “Default” | Remove-DeployRuleBoot the Hosts
Once you have a valid Deploy Rule in the Deploy Rule Set, you should see your hosts start to boot. Power On your hosts and watch them start to load ESXi. You have now booted a baremetal host into stateless ESXi!Conclusion

Although there are a number of steps to complete initially, this lays the groundwork for all future hosts to be able to stateless boot, without the need of manually installing and configuring every single ESX host. Abstract:
The Model Code for Concrete Structures is intended to serve as a basis for future codes. It takes into account new developments with respect to concrete structures, the structural material concrete and new ideas for the requirements to be formulated for structures in order to achieve optimum behaviour according to new insights and ideas. It is also intended as a source of information for updating existing codes or developing new codes for concrete structures. This edition of the Model Code gives an extensive state-of-the-art regarding material properties for structural concrete. This includes constitutive relations for concrete up to strength class C120, and properties of reinforcing and prestressing steel, including prestressing systems. Special attention is given to the application of fibre concrete for structural applications, the application of non-metallic reinforcement, interface characteristics, verification assisted by numerical simulations, verification assisted by testing, and to a number of important construction aspects.
The Model Code 2010 is more ’life cycle’ oriented than its predecessors. Reliability plays an important part: various methods are offered to cope with this aspect. The design of concrete structures is described for a large number of conditions. Design criteria are given with relation to reliability, functionality, durability and sustainability, where the last category is in the state of development. The chapter on conservation of structures provides insights into the degradation of concrete as a function of various types of environmental conditions. Attention is given to non-traditional types of reinforcement as well, like steel fibres and FRP, which have reached a status of recognition in the previous years.
Design rules for serviceability and ultimate limit states are given for a wide range of conditions, such as static and non-static loading (fatigue, impact and explosion, earthquake), high and low temperatures (fire and cryogenic). Furthermore limit states for durability are given. Design for sustainability will be an important task in the future; here some initial ideas are given. Design for robustness is also given due attention.
This document is the first complete draft of the fib Model Code 2010, and as such, it is open to suggestions for improvement. After comments and feedback have been received from the fib Commissions and duly taken into consideration, the final document will be submitted to the fib General Assembly for approval and then publication as the final version of the fib Model Code 2010.

Red Alert 2 should install without any problems on a modern PC. Simply put the CD-ROM into your computers optical drive, allow the autorun program to start and follow all on-screen prompts. There aren’t really any visual quality settings to change in Red Alert 2. You can however, change the games resolution. On some PCs you may find that the default screen resolution of 640×480 doesn’t work, and raising the resolution is necessary in order to start the game. Open the games installation folder (C:WestwoodRA2 by default) and find a file called “RA2.ini”. Edit this file in Notepad or your favourite text editor. Find the section that begins [Video] and simply change the “ScreenWidth” and “ScreenHeight” values to the desired resolution. For 1080p, for instance, use “ScreenWidth=1920” and “ScreenHeight=1080” (do not copy the quotation marks). A word of warning, the game was never designed with high resolutions in mind and at 1080p or higher resolutions the games graphics become very small. You may prefer to stick to 720p (“ScreenWidth=1280” “ScreenHeight=720”) instead (or whatever resolution your monitor best supports that’s close to 720p), just so you can keep track of your troops without straining your eyes.
Save the ini file when you are done editing it. It’s now time to run the game. The first time you run Red Alert 2, you will need to run the game as administrator. This is simply so that the game can set some registry keys. If you don’t run the game as admin, you will probably encounter a “String manager failed to initialise” error. Simply right click on the games shorcut and choose “Run as administrator”. You only need to do this the very first time you play.
Windows 7 users can now start commanding and conquering, though those of you with more powerful Windows 7 machines may want to check out the dgVoodoo 2 section too. Windows 8 users will need to carry out some further compatibility fixes before they can play the game.Windows 8 Troubleshooting
When starting the game on a Windows 8 PC, you will encounter an error which says “Unable to set the video mode”. Microsoft made some changes to the way legacy Direct Draw applications run in Windows 8 and this has had a negative effect on several titles. In order to play the game, you need to use one or the other of the fixes detailed below, depending on your PC.
Microsoft compatibility fix – This fix uses Microsoft’s own Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT) and allows the game to launch. This fix should work on any Windows 8 PC capable of running Red Alert 2 (which should be pretty much all of them). We’ve created a simple installer and uninstaller for this fix to take the hassle out of either editing the registry or fiddling with the ACT yourself, you can download it here. Performance when using this fix is acceptable though not perfect, the speed at which the map scrolls, for instance, could be better.
dgVoodoo 2 – If your PC has a DirectX 11 graphics card, we recommend using the dgVoodoo 2 DirectX wrapper. Performance when using this wrapper software is better than when using the ACT fix. Install dgVoodoo2 to your Red Alert 2 game folder by following our tutorial here. Use the settings files for DirectX (not 3DFX/Glide) and the default options. Do not try to force vertical sync (vsync).
By using dgVoodoo 2 you effectively convert Command & Conquer – Red Alert 2 into a Direct3D 11 game. This doesn’t change the graphics of course, but it does mean that you can now use tools such as Nvidia Shadowplay or Evolve with your game. Using Evolve, for instance, you can take screenshots, videos, chat to your friends and organise multiplayer games all without needing to alt-tab back to the desktop.Multiplayer
Although the online services for Red Alert 2 shut down some time ago, it’s still possible to play online or even against other computers in your home. Since the game used the now obsolete IPX networking standard, you will need to download this patch which enables TCP/IP networking in the game. With the patch installed, you can now play LAN (local area network) matches against other computers on your home network. Furthermore, you can also use tunnelling software like Evolve to play across the internet. As he explores his massive house, following the ghostly voices of his sons Edwin and Enoch, he begins to receive phone calls from someone who tells him that he must rescue the boys from a machine that Mandus built.
As he explores the house and the grounds, Mandus finds his own old journal entries, as well as phonograph recordings and diaries from his children. It is revealed the Mandus is a wealthy butcher whose giant factory has been sabotaged. The children are trapped in “the Machine,” which Mandus needs to restart. Of course, not all is as it seems and Mandus discovers terrible truths about his past actions—he built the machine after an ill-fated trip to Mexico where he saw a horrible vision of the tragedies of the 21st century—as well as the terrible effects of colonialism on the Mexican people.
The purpose of the machine is to industrialize human sacrifice, in order to bring about a new mechanized god and save humanity from itself. The machine has already been at work creating monstrous human/pig hybrids. Later in the game, these pigmen are released and throw London into chaos as they murder people and feed their bodies to the machine. Mandus realizes what a horrible mistake he has made and sacrifices himself to destroy the machine.
The overarching theme of A Machine for Pigs is about how industrialized society treats humans workers no better than pigs. The metaphor is rather hammered home, visually and textually. AMFP critiques in turn an uncaring upper class that uses the poor like cogs in a wheel, as well as the lower class that files unthinkingly into factories.Violence When Mandus is attacked by pigmen, there are blood smudges on the screen. There are also blood spatters around the environment. In terms of graphic violence, the game isn’t as explicit as some, but the implied violence (cannibalism, human experimentation, etc.) is powerful and fairly horrifying.

Scary Imagery A Machine for Pigs is, unsurprisingly, chock full of horror! Players will be hunted by hybrid pigmen in dark corridors, and urged onward by ghostly children. The horrible factory environment is well-designed, with dead pigs, fecal matter, and hideous machines. Notes and diary entries found throughout the game contain horrifying descriptions of death and disease, as well as the horrible experiments that Mandus carried out on people to perfect his machine.

Due to the excellent work of Gabriel L.Somlo it is possible to run the emulated Mac OS X on Linux under Qemu/KVM. The changes seem to be minimal, and the operating system emulation works well – as long as you have the Intel CPU, that’s it.
If you have only the AMD CPU, the emulation only works without the KVM, i.e. when you run qemu without the -enable-kvm option. With this option the emulation hangs on the grey screen with Apple logo. Enabling the verbose boot (-v option to Chameleon) shows an empty black screen instead.
This happens because Qemu does not properly pass the CPU vendor to the virtualized CPU when using KVM. For example, booting the Linux DVD installation with the following options:
and running cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep vendor prints the following:
As you see, despite your host CPU being AMD, qemu properly emulates the Intel CPU and sets the options correctly.
However if you add -enable-kvm switch, and run:

So the CPU model does not change. Since Mac OS X is supposed to only run on Intel CPU, we can assume Mac OS gets really confused when it does cpuid, and halts.
Now, there is a reason why Qemu is doing this. The reason is that the syscall emulation uses different instructions on AMD and Intel CPUs. So if the virtualized guest is specific to the CPU, and This is likely a bug in qemu for which the patch is submitted, but until it makes it upstream, you can apply the patch yourself:
